I Love Her

I Love Her

I will tell her I love her, yes I must

I will gather up courage and walk up to her hut

Get down on knee and pour out my heart

Utter lovely words with a rose flower in my hand

Sing to her a lovely song like the humming bird

Draw a lovely picture of us together on a post card

Will you join me in telling her?

I will tell her despite what she did in 2007

Choose to forget the blood she shed back then

Choose to ignore the tribal lines

Love her despite who is president

Celebrate with her when Kemboi wins the steeplechase

 Enjoy together Waithera’s precious cabbages

Eaten together with Otieno’s ugali and fish

Go to bed together when she wins the rugby sevens

And sob together when Harambee stars taste defeat

I love her shape, a beautiful landscape

Together we will go for many dates, enjoying our diversity

Let us all run together and embrace her with open arms

Get down on our knees and repent our atrocities

Please join me in telling her I love her

Our forefathers fought hard to redeem her out of bondage

And now you want to lock her in a cold cage?

Kenya ni sisi na sisi ni Kenya. We are one.
